‘Existential Crisis’ is the first single to be aired from Jack Conman’s upcoming album, titled seventh sense libido. This initial listen is a breezy narrative of acoustic guitar and sparse drums, over which Conman’s characterful voice questions insecurity in relationships and how that warps the perspective of the world around us, but most of all, of ourselves. It has a sense of early Alex Turner, although less jack-the-lad and more jack-the-deep-thinker. A song like ‘Existential Crisis’ also represents a turning tide in the music industry, away from fake bravado, and towards open conversations about mental health and society. Jack Conman doesn’t have an agenda here, but if this reaches the right people, then you know that these words with the vulnerability of a lo-fi recording can make a real connection. - Hannah Thacker
